Mini Projects

W.H.I.S.K

(Wireless Hands-Free Intelligent Stirring Kitchen-Aid)

As part of my ME Design (ME 4550) course, I collaborated with four fellow mechanical engineering students to develop W.H.I.S.K., an automatic rotary utensil holder designed to solve a common kitchen problem: maintaining consistent stirring while multitasking. Inconsistent stirring can lead to uneven cooking or burnt food, but W.H.I.S.K. offers a hands-free solution by keeping ingredients in motion, preventing sticking, and allowing users to focus on other tasks—all while ensuring evenly cooked meals.

How it Works

While the CAD model was not fully finalized due to the scope of the course, the primary actuation system is driven by a NEMA stepper motor. The motor powers a pulley with a pin insert that locks into an angled spoon during attachment, securing it to the spool and enabling rotational motion as intended.

Static and fatigue analyses were performed on key components within the assembly to evaluate potential failure modes.

My Roles and Responsibilities

  • Modifying and animating CAD using Onshape

  • Static and fatigue analysis for Spoon Attachment Holder

  • FOS Against Bolt Failure calculations

  • FOS Against Parts Loosening calculations

  • Fatigue Safety Factor

Game Controller

This CAD design of a game controller was made using SolidWorks. I gained proficiency in techniques such as lofted extrusions, parting line analysis, adding internal ribs, and designing for disassembly (DFD). In addition to technical design, I concentrated on optimizing both the ergonomic comfort and visual appeal of the controller, testing various materials and color options. This project deepened my understanding of designing intricate mechanical components and honed my SolidWorks expertise, which will be valuable in future endeavors.

Consumer Electronics are all around us, with new products being created every year. Being a huge fan of video games, I designed a game controller that uses features such as lofts, fillets, mirroring, and shell. I also had to create an assembly, add fastening details, and even creating the buttons, joystick, and the printed circuit board that would go inside the controller. Therefore, I was able to go through the whole design process and even enhance my SolidWorks skills with this advanced creation.
